Lexicographicide

I received a text that started xaxa which would be sasa… and it ended with xawa for sawa… Lexicographicide if I remember correctly refers to the murder of words according to some short story I read a very long time ago. We are slowly killing the English language and the main executioner would be a young man who I have the distinct pleasure (not) of being related to. The young man goes by the name of Peter Chess Pie on Facebook and all his friend requests have gone ignored until he changes the names “chess Pie” to Mureithi Githinji and he removes that silly pofile picture of soldier boy and puts a very lovely photo I paid for when he was in form four.

What is with today’s youth and their allergy to proper English? I amy not be a stuffy old maid but honestly I know when to end an official lettter with “your’s faithfully” and not “peace and thanks” I kid you not!

Despite telling him how sunglasses he buys on the streets will destroy his eyes, he still walks around with shades high on his nose, earphones and pants three sizes too big, arrogant smirk on his thinking he’s God’s gift to women. Homeboy cannot construct a decent sentence in English but still he remains a “catch”.

Soon he will go to college (God help us) and I do hope the gods of higher learning will instill some sense that five years of high school failed to do.

I pray he gets a decent job that will cater for his ill fitting clothes and suspected drug habit because though I cannot help being reated to the boy, he is too old for reform school and I might not be responsible for my actions. I might also embarass him by buying him another pair of slacks, shirt and sweater because I am soo old fashioned.

Meanwhile someone please teach me sheng: I have taken to going to our kalocal kiosk where some guys the oldest being about 23 (I  am not a cougar) hang out and speak the most wonderful melodious sheng.

  1. I envy my older cousins who went through the Youth Service before joining university. It helped one in being disciplined so I understand. If only that system would be revived.
